Yes\, of course there’ve been changes since guitarist/vocalist Jon Davis founded the group in 2006\, but the intention at the time toward superlative heavy – tonal extremity wrought with impressionist lyrics stripping ideas to the core where sometimes the whole line is just one word; they’ve always called it “Caveman Battle Doom” – remains at the root of everything they’ve done since. And across five studio records in the decade from 2012-2022\, Conan have set the standard by which much of “heavy” anything is judged. And in comparison\, most is found wanting. \nBut for every time you’ve heard about Conan’s music being like galloping steeds or frost-covered sharp-peaked mountains\, etc.\, imagery of largesse and violence\, the truth is Conan are an exercise in frequency. It’s the low resonance that shakes your chest\, the depth of the bass – now handled by David Ryley (ex-Fudge Tunnel) – the push of air from Johnny King’s kick drum\, or the way the dark-fuzz distortion of Davis’ guitar is offset by shouting vocals cutting through that sometimes punishing onslaught\, rarely to offer comfort so much as add viciousness to the crash\, plod and pillage. \nIn 2024\, Conan sign to Heavy Psych Sounds as a recognized name and one of the foremost acts of their generation\, wildly influential in their home country of the UK and well beyond; headliners in practice and theory alike. Their fifth LP\, 2022’s ‘Evidence of Immortality\,’ brought a dark ambience to coincide with its outright attack. With experiments in darkwave and synth adding breadth to the stated root purpose of aural force\, it’s never been harder to guess where the next few years might take their sound\, but whatever’s coming\, Conan will make it kill. The better part of two decades later\, their reliability remains unshakable. Other than a few surprise appearances\, this will be the first time Keenan has toured with the band since 2006. This will also be the first time the “Deliverance” lineup of the group has played together since 2001. \nC.O.C. recently emerged from hibernation as a trio and released 2012’s eponymous album and 2014’s “IX” to wide acclaim\, but many have been eagerly awaiting the return of Pepper Keenan. \nThe band were originally an influential hardcore punk/heavy metal crossover act before reaching critical success with a new lineup on 1991’s “Blind” album. After a few years of backyard party shows\, cassette demos\, 7” singles and first club gigs\, they released their debut album “Who is\, this is?” for Dr. Strange records in 1993\, gaining the attention of Brett Gurewitz\, owner of Epitaph records. DESCRIPTION:Friday\, May 22The Far Out LoungeDoors at 7pm  \nMASTER BOOT RECORD (aka MBR) is a Computer Metal project founded in 2016 by producer Vittorio D’amore mixing together heavy metal and synthesized electronic music. \nStarting in 2016 releasing albums under the chiptune/demoscene label Data Airlines has moved in 2018 to Blood Music to expand its audience to the electronic scene. In 2019 MASTER BOOT RECORD settled with Metal Blade Records\, the historic metal label based in Los Angeles to release the latest two albums “Floppy Disk Overdrive (2020)” and “Personal Computer(2022)” helping the project to gain increased popularity worldwide. MBR has also produced the video game “VirtuaVerse” as well as its original soundtrack. VirtuaVerse was released in 2020 on all gaming platforms as well as Nintendo Switch\, Xbox and Playstation. \nThe project as a live band increased their live activity in 2022 including live performing artists such as the guitar virtuoso and Ibanez endorser Edoardo Taddei at lead guitars and technical death metal drummer Giulio Galati. \nMBR released 14 albums so far with multiple record labels and has been one of the most successful musicians on US digital distribution platform Bandcamp charting #1 in general charts several times. She has presented workshops for writers throughout the USA and Europe\, where she continues to tour with both music and spoken word. \nTim Dahl is a New York City based bassist and vocalist best known for his work with the noise-rock bands Lydia Lunch Retrovirus and Child Abuse. He also writes and performs for the jazz groups Pulverize the Sound\, and GRID. Dahl has performed and/or recorded with many other notable musicians including Yusef Lateef\, Lydia Lunch\, Tyshawn Sorey\, Rhys Chatham\, Archie Shepp\, Eugene Chadbourne\, Tatsuya Yoshida\, Mary Halvorson\, Peter Evans\, Charles Hayward\, The Flying Luttenbachers\, Jandek\, Kool Keith\, Von Lmo…Dahl is also the co-host for Lydia Lunch’s podcast\, The Lydian Spin. Tim is featured in the films Lydia Lunch-The War is Never Over and Albert Oehlen’s Bad Painter. \nSaxophonist Matt Nelson regularly performs in a far-reaching\, motley assortment of musical projects. Described as “one of the more unpredictable virtuosos in New York’s underground” by Pitchfork and “genre-bending” by Tiny MixTapes\, his output often lies in the gray corners beyond categorization. DESCRIPTION:Friday\, November 7The Far Out LoungeDoors at 7:00pm \nDIY is a term now too pretentious and deliberately dripped like slobber from the mouths of PR writers to be taken seriously and probably isn’t the exact term I’m looking for to describe a band that spent a decade on Epitaph Records\, but it’s close. Off With Their Heads\, who started in 2002 in Minneapolis\, have become an all-encompassing enterprise\, partly out of the relentless drive which pushes Ryan Young and in turn OWTH forward\, and partly; it’s just that thing with the music industry (or any industry) where if you’ve been in it long enough you realize if you want something done right (or the way you want it) you have to do it yourself. \nClassifying them as DIY works for Off With Their Heads – they make their own merch\, run their own online store\, book their own tours\, and put out their own records; but I prefer a different term – which is a rare and deserved compliment. To me\, Off With Their Heads are “a band’s band”. They do what they want the way they want to do it and without some weird air or attitude like it’s a thing to be commended for. Their mission is honest in its cynicism and that makes them stand out in an industry full of bands and brands and people pretending so hard to not care. \nSince 2002\, Off With Their Heads have released 7 LPs\, 20 plus 7”s\, and a litany of lineup changes. Ryan Young is the only thread weaved across all releases. They have toured. They’ve broken up. They’ve gone on hiatus and then toured more. Their latest release is a 12” EP consisting of covers the band considers “outside of the genre you would expect”\, released on Young’s label\, Anxious and Angry. \nNow based in rural Illinois\, OWTH has had a somewhat stable lineup featuring Kyle Manning on drums. Together the duo toured across America as the world opened back up\, before recruiting Kevin Rotter on bass to support the 10-year anniversary of the beloved record\, Home\, all across North America and the UK through 2023. The band is Kyle and Ryan but they act within a collective of other musicians who keep things fresh and interesting. OWTH have grown a wide and ambitious fanbase due mostly to Young’s wit and lyrics. \nOften pinned as a ‘punk band’\, Young’s reach exceeds any specific genera. His influences are stretched and varied and in some ways unpredictable. OWTH have been cornered into a genera they painted themselves into\, but that’s not wholly who they are. With an attitude and swagger all its own\, their self-titled debut featured the instant classics “Babylon\,” “Bathroom Wall\,” “Cathouse” and “Don’t Change That Song\,” and its follow-up ‘Wake Me When It’s Over’ climbed even higher with the radio hit “House Of Pain\,” “Poison Ivy” and “Where There’s A Whip There’s A Way.” Despite their successes\, Faster defied the mainstream mold and always followed frontman Taime Downe’s underground sensibilities.
