SUMMARY:Dark & Lovely with Laurie Gallardo
DESCRIPTION:The State Theatre PresentsDark & LovelyAn evening of unsettling narrative with Laurie Gallardo \nThe State TheatreThursday\, February 13\, 2025 \nDoors: 7pmShow: 8pm \nHere’s something special for those who prefer a slightly darker twist for Valentine’s week! Join Laurie Gallardo (host/producer from KUTX 98.9) for an evening with a touch of the sinister as she presents a dramatic reading of a spooky short story for your listening pleasure! Think of it as a kind of eerie bedtime story\, but in the rich tradition of NPR’s Selected Shorts. This event will begin with a brief instrumental musical introduction performed by Carrie Rodriguez and David Pulkingham\, followed by Gallardo’s performance. Sit back\, relax\, and allow your imagination to fly as Gallardo ushers you into the folds of the macabre! \nIn addition to her far-reaching radio broadcast platform\, Gallardo has also made a name for herself as a voice actor under the guidance of her mentor\, actress Lainie Frasier. Gallardo’s voice has been featured on various documentaries\, anime series\, video games\, commercials\, and theatrical projects. As a film actor\, Gallardo made her big-screen debut in the 2014 independent thriller\, Two Step\, written and directed by Alex Johnson\, and has a comedic role in writer/director Dash Donato’s independent film\, Foxy Trot. Gallardo also has a leading role in the beautifully haunting short film Goodbye Sirena\, based on a screenplay by Tracee Beebe and directed by Melissa Dalley. \nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/1552214515414980/

SUMMARY:THE MAN WHO FELL TO EARTH (1976) at Paramount 50th Summer Classic Film Series
DESCRIPTION:The 50th Annual Paramount Summer Classic Film Series presented by Capital Metro\nTHE MAN WHO FELL TO EARTH\nThe State Theatre\nSunday\, July 28\, 2024\nDoors: 6pm\nFilm: 7pm\n1976 | 140 min. | Color | DCP\nDirected by: Nicolas Roeg\nCast: David Bowie\, Rip Torn\, Candy Clark\, and Buck Henry\nThis appropriately surreal film stars Bowie as an alien visitor to Earth on a mission to save his home planet. As often happens on our planet\, he is eventually overcome by greed\, addiction and sexual urges. Needless to say\, he gets sidetracked.
