SUMMARY:The Austin Séance at Nocturna - Early Sitting
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening of spirits and mystery as Albert Lucio and Jake Cordero of The Austin Séance recreate an old-time\, Victorian-era séance at Nocturna! The evening begins with a brief lecture on the history of American séances\, which came into fashion during the mid 19th century. Participants – the “sitters” – will then be led through relaxation exercises to prepare for the ritual\, and finally our hosts will employ the tools and practices of both historic and modern séances to attempt contact with the spirits of those in the afterlife! \nAll are welcome: from skeptics to believers of all things paranormal! \nThe evening will include complimentary cocktails\, and attendees are asked to dress in a way to show reverence for this historic parlor activity (no jeans\, flip flops\, or casual tees.) Bonus point for Victorian-era inspired garb! \nThis Early Seating is 6:20 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.\n✨About The Austin Séance \nThe Austin Séance is a creative and experimental collaboration devoted to the history and practice of American séances and Spiritualism. Led by Artistic Director Albert Lucio and Editorial Director Jake Cordero\, The Austin Séance has operated from its home base in Central Texas since 2016. Its work includes séance demonstrations in museums and other public institutions\, occult workshops\, occult lectures\, and academic seminars. The Austin Séance also operates an editorial division and publishes a quarterly journal. The Austin Séance has been featured in Texas Monthly\, NPR’s Texas Standard radio program\, TV broadcasts and more. \n✨About Albert Lucio and Jake Cordero of The Austin Séance (www.austinseance.com) \nJake Cordero\, an award-winning journalist\, has reported on everything from cult murders in Mexico to spirit hauntings in Fort Worth. He is a longtime student of magic and philosophy\, and the author of two books. Jake also is editor of The Austin Séance Quarterly Journal\, a Spiritualist history publication. \nThings that go bump in the night have always fascinated Albert Lucio. With a degree in sociology and psychology\, Albert has set out to understand how we shape and are shaped by supernatural beliefs. He has spent years studying ghost hunters\, consorting with psychics and researching the occult. \n✨About Nocturna \nNocturna is movement and mystical sanctuary and coven where the Dark Femme rises – serpentine and sovereign. We weave magickal practices with polework\, floorwork\, and somatic movement\, finding liberation through embodiment. Open to all bodies and identities\, Nocturna is a diverse\, welcoming space where the freedom to authentically express is celebrated\, embodiment is magick\, and every soul is invited to move in ways that awakens joy\, sovereignty\, and release. \nSpace is limited. Must be 18+. For entertainment purposes only. Tickets are non-refundable but are transferrable.
