Taps & Tapes Presents: Rage
November 30, 2019 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pmFree
During the ’90s, Joseph Merhi and Rick Pepin created a production shingle called PM Entertainment, whose sole mission was to deliver the most insane, low budget action spectacles in the history of American cinema. Each movie cost roughly $350,000 to make, and were hocked directly to video stores: shelf-stuffing content that helped keep a booming business stocked with some of the most ridiculous titles imaginable. With each picture – many of which Merhi wrote and directed, while Pepin manned the camera as DP – they got a little better at their nutso craft, rolling cars and staging high caliber shoot outs with reckless abandon. By the end of their run in the early aughts, they’d churned out over 80 films and a TV series that lasted multiple seasons on the USA Network.
1995’s RAGE is arguably the high water mark of the PM action era, bringing beefcake Gary Daniels into your living room and just letting him go buck wild on your entire family. Directed by Merhi, this movie kills EVERYTHING in sight, unloading countless clips during loony gun battles before hurling vehicles into one another at a rate that’ll have you wondering just how in the hell nobody was killed during production (no records were ever kept on the making of RAGE). So, if you’re in the area on Black Friday Weekend and need to just release some stress after a hectic bout of Christmas shopping, know that this movie has you covered while you sip on a cold beer.
As with all Taps & Tapes screenings, seating is free but limited (so bring your own chair, if you’d like) and Vulcan Video will provide complimentary adult beverages while supplies last (but again, we encourage you to BYOB).
