Spider Baby at Ravencraft’s Vault of Horror
June 10, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pmFree
Join Saul Ravencraft for a look at some of his personal favorites in horror.
The title is “Spider Baby or, the Maddest Story Ever Told.” It is a rare treat of a horror film in glorious black and white. Lon Chaney, Jr. (now just going as Lon Chaney) plays a family chauffeur, who has become the caretaker of three siblings. Their family is cursed with a disease that turns them into monsters as they grow past a certain age. It’s a little campy. While not gory, it still manages to be pretty disturbing. The ending is much better than expected.
It is one of the last films of Lon Chaney, Jr., who felt the project was important enough to sober up during filming. It is also one of the early films of Sid Haig, who later went on to play the murderous clown, Captain Spalding, in the Rob Zombie films. This movie is a wild ride. Plan to join us. You won’t be sorry.
We will again take donations for the JED Foundation, an organization dedicated to protecting emotional health and preventing suicide for our nation’s teens and young adults. They partner with high schools and colleges to strengthen their mental health, substance abuse and suicide prevention programs and systems.

This interactive event takes place in the amazing 3-screen viewing room at Mister Tramps, where there’s not a bad seat in the house. Saul leads the proceedings with help from his sullen assistant. Enjoy each horrible reel with a live audience, the way they were intended to be seen. In between reels, Saul will share some of his paranormal entertainment, featuring some of his strange artifacts and “games” designed to push the boundaries and prove that there are, indeed, more things in heaven and earth than are dreamt of in your philosophy.
