Forty years ago, Steven Spielberg harvested some of his unused ideas from a pre-E.T. alien invasion film about an ordinary family pitted against the unknown, added in some supernatural elements from his darkest fears, and hired Tobe Hooper to direct. The result is the all-time American horror classic, POLTERGEIST – screening this May via a gorgeous new 4K restoration courtesy of Warner Brothers.
JoBeth Williams and Craig T. Nelson star as the Freelings, whose average suburban family is tested when unexplained phenomena begin to manifest in their house. What begins as curiosity turns to terror when their young daughter (played wonderfully by Heather O’Rourke) goes missing. Together, the family must rally their strength to rescue the child from the demonic entity preying upon their home.
Don’t miss a fortieth-anniversary screening of one of the greatest ghost movies ever made. There’s a reason this movie is a classic, folks.
