It all started here.
It was ninety years ago this month that Bela Lugosi’s immortal DRACULA was unleashed on the world, the first of many Universal Studios monster movies to be produced in a legendary run that wound mostly through the ’30s and ’40s. Arriving at a time when “talkies” were a new thing, the film adapted the stage play that Lugosi had starred in, and set the template for future depictions of Count Dracula, vampires in general, and decades of Halloween costumes.
