We Dare You To Say His Name Five Times!
Kicking off as a slasher that deals with an urban legend in Chicago’s Cabrini Green, CANDYMAN quickly expands into a multi-layered mindwarp that thrashes our emotions in the best way possible. This movie has all of the violence and mental deconstruction that you’d expect from a Clive Barker adaptation. But it’s also a sensitive subversion of classism that ends up feeling like PHANTASM as seen through the eyes of Agnes Varda. With incredible performances from Virginia Madsen and Tony Todd (and his hook-hand) and a haunting soundtrack by Philip Glass, CANDYMAN is a senses-shattering wake-up call for anyone who feels that horror is a disposable genre.
